The Effect of Health Education in the Knowledge and the Attitude of the College Students Regarding the Use of Medicine

Abstract
This study was undertaken between June 1994 and December 1994 in order. to obtain basic data on knowledge and attitude towards the use of medicine among college students. 118 subjects were chosen. They were the first year and the second year students at Seoul Nursing Junior College.
The subjects were divided into two groups, one with health education and the other without health education prior to collecting data. The questionnaires including 81 items were used to evaluate the effect of the health education.
The data was analyzed by using Chi-square test, paired-t test and ANOVA.
The results of the study are as follows :
1. When examining the general features and similarities of the subjects between two grous, they showed little difference in religion, school marks, friendship, health and the relationship with their parent. However many in group I(with education?) considered them fat and their school marks were higher than those in group II.
2. For the verification of the hypotheses between two groups, the first hypothesis "Score for the Knowledge would be higher in the subjects with health education" was supported(t=-12.53, p<0.001). The average score was increased to 135.07 from 110.19, following health education.
The second hypothesis "Score for the attitude would be higher with health education" was also supported(t=-3.87, p<0.001). The average score was increased to 60.32 from 58.32.
3. The knowledge and the attitude of the subjects were not related to their religion, fitness, health and relationships with their parents. However, there was a significant difference in the relation to their friendship between tow groups(F=6.016, p<0.001).
4. There was in difference in the knowledge and the attitude toward taking medicine between two groups overall.
The importance of the parents¢¥ opinion in ways to manage illness between two groups was slightly different(F=2.458, p<0.05).
